Two editions, one codebase
How it differs from the App Store edition.
Both editions scan on your Mac and move only what you approve to the Trash. The difference is what each one is allowed to look at, and how you pay.
Mac App Store edition
Spaceback, free to download
- Sandboxed by Apple. It sees your home folder and the folders you grant, nothing outside it.
- Pro is an App Store purchase that also covers Spaceback on iPhone and iPad with the same Apple Account.
- Includes Spaceback Link between your Mac and iPhone.
- Updates through the App Store.
Spaceback Pro, direct
This page: $79.99 once
- Not sandboxed. It also reads the shared caches in
/Library, outside your home folder.
- A licence for the Mac app only, on every Mac you own. It doesn’t unlock the iPhone or iPad app.
- No Spaceback Link in this edition.
- Updates through its own signed updater. Automatic checks stay off unless you turn them on.
Not being sandboxed lets Spaceback Pro read more of your Mac. It doesn’t let it delete files that belong to macOS: those are protected, and for things like old simulator runtimes Spaceback points you to Apple’s own tools. It still leaves your Mail, Messages, Safari and Photos libraries alone, by name.
